Farewell, “Mr. Cub”, Ernie Banks

Mr. Ernie Banks, Hall of Fame shortstop and first baseman for the Cubs has passed away at the age of 83.  Banks, known as “Mr. Cub”, was an excellent ambassador for the game of baseball, who was always full of optimism and energy.   The most beloved of all Cubs, Banks was famous for saying, “Let’s play 2!”, meaning that baseball was just too much fun to only play one game in a given day.   Banks was a 2-time MVP award recipient and a member of the elite 500 home run club (512).   He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1977 on his first ballot opportunity.  We had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Banks a few times at the Hall of Fame and his attitude and approachable personality were always consistent with his reputation.  Thank you for your contributions on and off the field Mr. Cub.  May you rest in peace.
